This course provides an opportunity for you to develop your creative strengths and prepare for one of our Foundation Degrees or University. We will support you in building a strong portfolio to help you reach this goal. You will be encouraged to think differently about Art and your chosen field, to experiment and take risks with your work and ideas whilst adopting a professional approach within art and design practice. The course includes practical, theoretical and investigative projects, and in addition gallery/museum visits. You will be given individual support and guidance throughout the UCAS application process.
Entry Requirements
- You need to be at least 18 years of age
- 200 GCSE points (5 GCSEs at Grade C or above) including English Language, or additional A Levels, or a BTEC National Diploma or a Vocational A Level (AVCE) in a related field
- You will have to provide examples of art and design work at interview
- We also welcome applications from students with relevant experience or qualifications
What will I be doing on the course?
- Working with a broad range of creative individuals
- Developing your Art and Design skills base
- Building a portfolio of work for HE application
- Taking part in an exciting range of enrichment activities
How will I be assessed?
Course work will be assessed at each stage of the programme, culminating in a Final Major Project at the Confirmatory stage.
What will I need?
All students need to purchase a course art kit at a cost of £110, and an A1 portfolio. In addition, students are expected to make a financial contribution to visits of approximately £50 for the year. Students may also need to provide specialist materials.
What can I do next?
- Once you have successfully completed this course, you will have gained a nationally recognised qualification and developed your personal skills
- You may progress onto a Foundation Degree or a BA Honours Degree across a wide range of art and design disciplines including the Foundation Degrees at Hertford Regional College.
Additional Activities
The Foundation Diploma in Art and Design is designed to enable you to learn through discovery and exploration; this is primarily achieved through your engagement with projects, lectures and enrichment activities, including study visits and employer engagement activities. The course is essentially a transitional experience in Art, Design and Communication preparing you for either a place in higher education or employment.
