Additional Information

The course is run in conjunction with The Paddocks Riding Centre at Hough on the Hill and classes will be held at the centre on one day a week, with a further two days at College. Transportation will be provided from College. Students will be expected to have riding hats, riding boots, jodhpurs and body protectors. Riding Hat standards accepted PAS 015; ASTM F1163; SNELL E2001; BSEN 1384; EN1384 Riding Boots Boots should preferably have a smooth through sole and small heel. Many of the "yard" boots currently being used have tread that is too heavy to ride in as it could cause the foot to become wedged, or stuck, on the stirrup. Traditional riding boots or jodhpur boots are the best footwear. Trainers and Wellington boots are both inappropriate. Body Protectors Body protectors are optional, however if any of the candidates are up to the level that can jump we would expect them to wear one. Body protectors are designed to offer protection to a rider when falling off, being kicked or stood on by a horse. No body protector can prevent serious injury in certain accidents, but they can increase your chances of staying alive and reducing the severity of injuried. The correct fitting of a body protector is essential, a visit to a properly trained retailer who has attended a BETA Safety course is recommended.

Entry Requirements

2 GCSEs (Grade D or above). Students will be expected to be able to demonstrate some prior knowledge and experience of working with, handling and riding horses.
