Course content

Cert HE in Professional Welsh

You will study a total of 120 credits during the year made up of  six twenty-credit modules. Two modules will be studied during each of the three semesters. The first two modules concentrate on the differences between the written and spoken language. In the second semester, you will learn about the principles of translation from English into Welsh and improve your linguistic skills. In final two modules you will be able to apply what you have learnt to a professional setting and will cover areas such as editing and proofreading, oral and written presentation and report writing.

You will develop a wide repertoire of competencies, generic and specific skills, attributes and capabilities which are highly valued in the bilingual workplace, including information technology, evaluation, analysis, English-Welsh translation and written Welsh communication in a variety of formats and styles.

Entry requirements and applying

120 UCAS tariff points at GCE A Level or equivalent. As this is a Welsh medium programme candidates must have adequate Welsh language skills to follow the course. This can be shown either through an academic qualification in Welsh e.g. GCSE first language Welsh or at interview. All applicants are considered on an individual basis and motivation and commitment are considered alongside academic requirements. If you do not satisfy the normal academic entry requirements you may be admitted to the course, after interview, at the discretion of the course tutor and in general accordance with Glyndŵr University’s academic regulations for undergraduate courses. The nature of the online delivery means that students must also have access to an internet-connected computer and possess sufficient computer literacy to access a course delivered via virtual learning environment.
