Course content
BSc (Hons) Psychology
Throughout the course you will gain a greater understanding of social interaction, individual development and the way in which the brain interprets information that we deal with on a daily basis. If you’ve ever questioned people’s behaviour or reactions or wondered how the human brain works, then studying this degree will be ideal for your questioning mind and help you gain this understanding.
Typical course content
The scientific nature of psychology is emphasised throughout the course with specific modules relating to: social psychology, developmental psychology, individual differences, cognitive psychology, and psychobiology. You will develop your statistical and research skills through regular laboratory based practicals and in the final part of the course you will complete a substantial final project on a topic of your choice.
Modules
The BSc (Hons) Psychology programme contains 18 modules taught over 3 years. The course is designed to meet the requirements for GBC with the British Psychological Society (BPS).

A degree in psychology opens up progression into a wide range of careers including:
- Educational psychology
- Occupational psychology
- Health psychology
- Counselling psychology
Alternatively, you could go on to postgraduate training, research or teaching.
Entry requirements and applying
You will need 260 UCAS tariff points at GCE A Level or equivalent, and a GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English. Appropriate AS-Level and Level 3 Key Skills qualifications will also be taken into account. A science would be an advantage, but is not essential. Applications are welcome from anyone who exhibits the ability and experience to cope with the demands of the programme. There are arrangements in place for accrediting prior experience: entry to the degree is possible under accreditation of prior and/or experiential learning.
Similarly, applications from international students who are able to demonstrate an ability and experience to cope with the demands of the programme are welcomed. Students whose first language is not English or Welsh should have a minimum of 5.5 IELTS (English for International Opportunity) points in all four areas of language: speaking, writing, listening and reading.
