Gloucestershire College’s experienced tutors will show you how to paint the interior and exterior of a building. You will also learn the tricks of putting up wallpaper andl also get the chance to explore the different paints available and the different results you can achieve with them. In addition you wll be taught how to work in a safe environment and how to prepare surfaces for the paint finishes. The course is validated by the Construction Awards Alliance and is designed in such a way that you only need to come into college one day a week and because you are assessed by your talent and ability, being employed as a trainee painter or decorator is a must. You will spend the remaining 4 days of the week on site and the work carried out there will count towards your final marks. You will be assessed on your practical skills in College and at work, and also your knowledge of painting and decorating. As part of this course you will also be undertaking additional skills that employers feel are vital to the profession. These additional qualifications in communication skills (both written and verbal) along with numeracy skills will be delivered on your day in College and form part of the apprenticeship framework.
Additional NotesYou will need to wear suitable protective clothing and steel toe-capped boots or shoes.
Entry CriteriaTo get a place on the programme, you need to be working in painting and decorating, or we may be able to help you find a placement as we have excellent links with local employers. You will need to attend an interview and selection process.
Progression DetailsThe Level 1 Diploma equips you with all the basic skills but to be really competent it is a good idea to progress on to the Level 2 Diploma.
