About This CourseAre you considering the motor trade as a career? At the college we offer a level 1 Awarding Body Consortium (ABC) award in motor vehicle studies. If you are selected by your school and pass a selection interview with us you could do this course for one day per week before you leave school. The course is of two years duration and will give you a good start to understanding motor vehicle engineering. All your learning will be done entirely in a car workshop, so be prepared to get your hands dirty. We'll give you a good introduction to vehicle maintenance and you'll be ready to start a full time course if you choose to progress when you leave school. Assessment will be ongoing…

Assessment will be ongoing on both theory and practical aspects of the course through a variety of methods to see how you are progressing. Many students who do this course come back and go on to take full-time courses and are now working successfully within the industry having gone even further and completed an apprenticeship. This course could really change your future if you have the interest and commitment.
Additional NotesYou’ll need safety boots and overalls and details will be given to you prior to the start of the course.
Entry CriteriaThe Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance is a great first step into the motor vehicle trade. You will need to pass a selection interview when we will ask you about your experience, skills and motivation for taking the course.
Progression DetailsOnce you've completed the Certificate, and have left school you can apply for a full-time course or an apprenticeship if you have the necessary academic qualifications.
