In an economically globalised world, a good understanding of international commercial law is one of the essential attributes of legal and business practices in any jurisdiction. An advanced degree in this area is now considered highly desirable for international legal and business professions, as evidenced by the increasing number of students from overseas pursuing a LLM in commercial law in the UK. The LLM in International Commercial Law at Edinburgh Napier University is designed for those students from law, business, management, politics or other social science background who intend to specialise in the international aspects of commercial law. What's involved The programme offers not only some essential commercial law modules which are commonly available in other UK universities but also distinctive modules taught by experts in these areas. Trimester 1: Legal Skills and Research Methods (Compulsory for non-law entrants and international students) International Economic Law Human Rights Aspects of International Business Dispute Resolution Methods Trimester 2: Contemporary issues in Business Law International Sports and Entertainment Law Ethics and Corporate Governance Principles of Financial Regulation Contemporary Issues In Intellectual Property Trimester 3: Dissertation Students are required to choose three modules in each of Trimesters 1 and 2 and complete Dissertations in Trimester 3. One business-related module from other programmes of Business School can be selected subject to the approval of programme leader.

Requirements at a glanceEntry to the courseApplicants from the UK will normally be expected to hold at minimum an Honours (2.2) degree from a UK Institution. Applicants from Scotland (or elsewhere) with an Ordinary degree and a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience may also be admitted. Applicants applying from another European Union country must have a qualification equivalent to 240 Credits under the European Credit Transfer Scheme (ECTS). Students applying from outside the European Union must have at minimum an honours (2.2) degree or equivalent from a recognised institution.It is desirable for applicants to have a law degree or a degree with a substantial law component. Other qualifications with appropriate experience may be considered. Where the applicant has not studied law before, or has studied for a first degree with only a small law component, such an applicant being known hereafter as a “non-law entrant”, the applicant will be required to undertake the “Legal Skills and Research Methods” module as a compulsory part of his/her Programme.Fees Table2012/3 2013/4 Scotland £5,640 £5,870 European Union £5,640 £5,870 Rest of UK £5,640 £5,870 Overseas £10,350 £10,760 Fees displayed are correct at the time of publication but the University Court reserves the right to make changes in fees at any time, and without notice, before or after the student's admission to the University.Tuition fees are reviewed annually and will rise each year during your programme of study, at least in line with inflation.
