The MSc in International Banking and Finance will familiarise you with the most current developments in global financial markets from the unique perspective of banking institutions. The programme aims at preparing you for a career in banking and finance by enabling you to develop expertise in key areas of international banking institutions management. Through the compulsory modules you will acquire a critical understanding of current theories and empirical research in the fields of banking, finance and law from which you will develop the practical skills to apply this knowledge within an institutional framework. The specialist modules will offer you the academic preparation to evaluate alternative theories and methodologies in international banking and finance and to make critical judgements on their applicability to complex issues where there is incomplete information. What's involved The programme is studied full-time over one year of three trimesters. You will learn by a variety of teaching methods including lectures, tutorials and independent study. You will study: Trimester 1 You will be required to undertake three compulsory modules in your first trimester – Financial Management; Financial Markets, Institutions & Banking; and International Economic Law. Trimester 2 Your second trimester will involve two compulsory modules – International Banking & Insurance and Strategic Management in Global Banking – and you will choose one option module. Trimester 3 The third trimester is composed of the Research Methods module and a Dissertation.
Requirements at a glanceEntry to the courseYou will normally be expected to hold an Honours (2.2) degree. If you have an Ordinary degree and a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience you may also be admitted. It is not necessary, though desirable, to have a degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Law. If you are applying from outside the European Union you must have an Honours (2.2) degree or equivalent from a recognised institution and, will also be required to provide proof of English Language proficiency.
