In this course you'll develop the skills, creative thinking and strategic planning that you'll need to successfully chart a business's course through financial waters. Most importantly, this course is accredited by the major UK accounting institutes, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS). Useful for rapid progression into the industry, these accreditations indicate the strength and industry-relevance of this course. The Accounting and Finance group has also received the highest possible recognition from the UK's Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) for the quality of its teaching. Through this course, you'll learn and develop a combination of accounting, human resource management and other business skills. These include specific accounting techniques and policies relating to corporate finance, tax, auditing, corporate governance and statistics. You'll learn to use relevant IT systems, and acquire relevant knowledge of law, economics and the business environment. What's involved You will study up to 5 modules, over two trimesters, each year; the pace of completion will be determined by you and your individual circumstances. As a part-time student you will study alongside full-time students, with flexibility as to the number of modules you choose to study per trimester, as your work and personal commitments dictate. The course will involve a combination of lectures, tutorials, workshops, directed learning and independent study. While the bulk of the course is identical to that of the BA Accounting degree, human resource management modules will also be incorporated. The course comprises four stages equivalent to 4 years full-time. Each stage is made up of 6 modules. On successful completion of Stage 3, you will be eligible for unclassified degree, or an Honours degree on completion of Stage 4. Below you'll find an indication of the compulsory modules you could study. These will be supplemented with choices from a course-specific option pool: Stage 1 Financial Accounting; Management Accounting; Behavioural Studies; Principles of Economics; Accounting Information Systems; plus one option module Stage 2 Corporate Accounting; Business and Corporate Law; Reporting Corporate Performance; Financial Management; Management Science & Statistics; Introduction to Human Resource Management Stage 3 Advanced Corporate Reporting; Advanced Management Accounting; Corporate Financial Management; plus three option modules Stage 4 Dissertation, plus four option modules
