You’ll learn and develop a combination of accounting, entrepreneurial and other business skills, which will increase your career opportunities and help you to understand the entrepreneurial process.

In this course, you'll develop the skills, creative thinking and strategic planning that you'll need to successfully chart a business' course through financial waters. Most importantly, this course is accredited by the major UK accounting institutes, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS). Useful for rapid progression into the industry, these accreditations indicate the strength and industry-relevance of this course. The Accounting and Finance group has also received the highest possible recognition from the UK's Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) for the quality of its teaching. Through this course, you'll learn and develop a combination of accounting, finance, entrepreneurial and other business skills. These include specific accounting techniques, and policies relating to corporate finance, tax, auditing, corporate governance and statistics. You'll learn to use relevant IT systems, and acquire relevant knowledge of law, economics and the business environment. Inaddition, transferable skills of time management, project management, communication, collection and management of data, and IT will all serve you well in the future, whatever your eventual field of work. What's involved You will study six modules, over two trimesters, per year. The course will involve a combination of lectures, tutorials, workshops, directed learning and independent study. While the bulk of the course is identical to that of the BA Accounting degree, entrepreneurship modules will also be incorporated. On successful completion of Year 3, you will be eligible for unclassified degree, or an Honours degree on completion of Year 4. The course is also available on a part-time basis which involves fewer than six modules per year but takes longer to complete. Below you'll find an indication of the compulsory modules you could study. These will be supplemented with choices from a course-specific option pool: Year 1 Financial Accounting; Management Accounting; Exploring Entrepreneurship; Principles of Economics; Accounting Information Systems; plus one option module Year 2 Corporate Accounting; Business and Corporate Law; Reporting Corporate Performance; Financial Management; Management Science & Statistics; Creativity, Innovation & Enterprise Year 3 Advanced Corporate Reporting; Advanced Management Accounting; Corporate Financial Management; Starting a New Business; plus two option modules Year 4 Dissertation, plus four option modules
