The Nursing with Registration (Decelerated) Degree enables graduates to register with the NMC in a chosen field of practice: Adult, Mental Health, Child or Learning Disability Nursing.

Teaching and assessment
A wide variety of teaching and learning methods are used including lectures, seminars, presentations and tutorials. You will also experience enquiry based/ problem solving and independent learning techniques, as well as a variety of e-learning facilities, and maintaining a professional portfolio.
You will complete blocks of clinical placements (30–37.5 hours per week) and blocks of theory hours (up to 16 hours per week). Week-long blocks for self-directed learning, reading, reflection and professional development are allocated throughout the course.
Inter-professional learning allows you to mix with other students/professionals, and understand wider issues and debates in the sector.

Work experience and placements
You will benefit from placements in Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and Northampton's hospitals and community placements.
From January 2013, exciting opportunities for placements in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire's hospitals and community services are being developed. Students based in north Leicestershire or Nottinghamshire may wish to benefit from these placements.
You will work alongside a mentor to learn the practical application of nursing relevant to your chosen field of nursing practice.
50% of the course is based in clinical practice. Placements are based in a variety of hospitals, community, clinics and social care settings including caring for patients/clients in their own homes. This includes a range of different shift patterns across a 24 hour cycle.
Erasmus and elective placement opportunities are also available.
Uniform and Dress Code Policy
This course includes compulsory hospital and community placements;
these are an essential component for completion of the course.
Whilst on placement, students must adhere to the uniform / dress
code policy of the placement provider. University Hospitals of
Leicester NHS (UHL) trust. The UHL NHS Trusts and other placement
providers have given careful consideration to cultural and
religious needs relating to uniform policies / dress codes. These
have been developed in conjunction with local / national cultural
and religious bodies. This is to ensure that local / national
infection control guidance is adhered to. Whilst every attempt has
been made to accommodate individual needs, however, there are some
areas where the need to fully comply with infection control
guidance has overridden religious requirements.

UK students currently benefit from a grant, means-tested bursary and payment of fees by the NHS. (Based on 2012 entry and may be subject to change.) This decelerated course attracts pro rata funding over the four years.
