Get yourself started in a sports career on water with this new course - the Level 3 Certificate in Sailing and Watersports.
It's a full-time programme which includes opportunities for instruction and leadership qualifications, and work experience. It offers an excellent progression route onto further study or into the workplace.
You study 14 modules over the 2 years, including:
- Practical sailing skills
- Injury in sport
- Work placement
- Planning and leading activities
- Planning and running an event
- Technical and tactical skills
- Sports nutrition
You continue to develop your maths and English skills through functional skills or GCSE sessions.

You are assessed in a variety of ways including essays, logbooks,
presentations, interviews and observations. Functional skills and
additional qualifications involve theory and practical
examinations.
Most sessions are at the Oxford Sailing Club and use their
excellent facilities to combine theory and practice.
The qualifications awarded are:
- Level 3 Certificate in Sailing and Watersports
- Edexcel Level 3 Diploma in Leadership
- functional skills qualifications in English and maths depending
on GCSE grades
You also improve the wider skills vital for success in further
study or employment including self-confidence, speaking in front of
others, working with others, taking responsibility and managing
your time.
You need to have one of the following:
4 GCSEs at grade C or above, preferably including English or
maths
Level 2 in a related subject
appropriate professional experience
A keen interest in sailing and watersports and commitment to
advanced level study are essential. Your offer is also subject to a
successful interview.
The Level 3 Sailing and Watersports course is an excellent pathway to higher education programmes. You can also look to gain employment in places such as outdoor education centres and sailing clubs.
