Navigation and seamanship for both motor and sailing vessels.

This is a shore-based scheme of study, suitable for beginners with little or no knowledge of seamanship.

An additional cost will be incurred for accreditation.

Learner & Entry Requirements:  For beginners or those with little experience.

General & First Session: 

During the first 3 weeks of the course you need: a parallel ruler OR Brenton Plotter, dividers (single handed).  RYA student pack of course materials, including exercises, charts, course handbook – discussed with you during the first class.  KAE is unable to offer refunds for any materials, equipment or books if the course is subsequently closed.

Course Aim & Objective: 

Gain a basic understanding of navigational techniques and take the final RYA Day Skipper (shore-based) examination.

By the end of the course you should, in theory, be able to navigate a small yacht or power-driven craft in local waters at sea, safely, and with due consideration to other vessels. 

Assessment: 

Continuous coursework assessment (approximately 10 exercises), homework approximately 1.5 hours per week, final two part exam.

Progression: 

RYA Day Coastal Skipper Level 2.
