Sailing and Watersports Level 2 Certificate

Get yourself started in a sports career on water with this new course - the Level 2 Certificate in Sailing and Watersports. It's a one-year full-time programme which includes opportunities for instruction and leadership qualifications and work experience. Offering successful students an excellent progression route onto our Level 3 programmes or into the workplace, this is a fantastic opportunity to pursue a long- term career within the sailing and watersports family.

You study 7 modules over the year including:
- Practical Sailing Skills
- Injury in Sport
- Work Placement
- Planning and Leading Activities
- Planning and Running an Event
- Technical and Tactical Skills
- Sports Nutrition

You continue to develop your maths and English skills through functional skills or GCSE sessions. Instructor qualifications are also on offer. You are assessed in a variety of ways including essays, logbooks, presentations, interviews and observations. Functional skills and additional qualifications involve theory and practical examinations.

Most sessions are at the Oxford Sailing Club and use their excellent facilities. Sessions combine theory and practice.

The qualifications awarded are:
Level 2 Certificate in Sailing and Watersports
Edexcel Level 2 Diploma in Leadership
Through Sportfunctional skills qualifications in English and maths depending on GCSE grades

You also improve the wider skills vital for success in further study or employment including self-confidence speaking in front of others working with others taking responsibility and managing your time.

The BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Sailing and Watersports Leadership offers continued development of Maths and English, the opportunity to collect Instructor Qualifications and gain work experience at the Sailing Club. This is a practically based course that allows significant opportunity to put into practice the theory of sailing and watersports.

You need to have one of the following: 2 GCSEs at grade D or above preferably including English or maths Level 1 in a related subject, appropriate professional experience. A keen interest in sailing and watersports and commitment to advanced level study are essential. Your offer is also subject to a successful interview.

The Level 2 Sailing and Watersports course is an excellent pathway to our Level 3 programmes. You can also look to gain employment in places such as outdoor education centres and sailing clubs.
