During this one year full-time course you will cover the full range of beauty therapy subjects learning how to provide a range of professional beauty treatments. You'll develop your confidence and customer service skills with realistic practical work experience within our industry-standard salons. Supported by expert beauty tutors in class salons and tutorials, you'll also improve your functional skills to ensure successful completion of this internationally-recognised qualification.

Topics covered include: facial and skin care, cosmetic make-up, manicure, waxing, pedicure, health and safety standards, salon managerial skills, anatomy and physiology, lash and brow treatments, sales skills, customer service and conversational techniques. Functional skill such as Maths and/or English (dependant on individual needs) and enterprise weeks will also form part of your programme of study.

Assessment is continuous throughout the course. It includes six written exams, practical observations, oral questions, written assessments and some assignments. You will also produce a portfolio showcasing example of your work. A minimum of 85% attendance is required by the Examining Board and the college for the successful completion of the qualification.

You'll learn through discussions, expert demonstrations by experienced beauty practitioners and practical activities in our industry-standard facilities. We are open to the public and are run like a professional salon so you'll have the opportunity to practice your professional beauty treatments on customers, whilst gaining work experience in the industry.

You'll gain the ability to perform these salon treatments to a professional standard and achieve NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapy. Since you'll be training in realistic work environments you will gain the confidence to work in a salon spa or even start your own business.

Applicants for a Level 2 programme will normally have at least 3 GCSEs at Grade C or above and/or a completed Level 1 Award; GCSEs to include English and Maths at Grade C or above, or Level 1 Functional Skills qualifications, and the willingness to study for an additional qualification in English and/or Maths. If you are interested in a Level 2 programme and have alternative qualifications you would like us to consider please contact us with your details to discuss further. Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme. A good school report or reference and a successful interview are also required.

Depending on your progress and completion of Level 2 successful candidates will be invited to apply for the Level 3 programme. Career destinations include health and beauty salons, health farms, spas, leisure centres in hotels or clubs, cruise ships and setting up your own business. NVQs in beauty therapy can also lead to specialist training e.g. photographic, TV and film make-up, theatre work, or working for a cosmetic company. Further advanced training could include a Foundation Degree such as Beauty Therapy and Spa Management.
