This security/door training course is for people who want to work as a door supervisor, or for individuals who work to provide a more secure leisure environment. It combines theory and practical work and allows you to apply immediately for a door supervision licence.

UNIT 1: Working in private security industry
- legislation, health and safety, fire safety, emergencies
UNIT 2: Working as a door supervisor
- behaviour, standards, civil and criminal law for door
supervisors, search procedures, powers of arrest, drug legislation,
incident recording and crime scene preservation, licensing law,
following procedures for emergency situations
UNIT 3: Conflict management in the private security industry
- principles of conflict management
- recognise, assess and reduce risk in conflict situations
- communicate effectively in emotive situations and de-escalate
conflict
- develop and use problem-solving strategies for resolving
conflict
- understand good practice to follow after resolving conflict
situations
UNIT 4: Physical intervention skills for the private security
industry
- use non-aggressive physical skills to protect yourself and others
from assault
- use non pain-related standing, holding and escorting techniques,
including non-restrictive and restrictive skills
The qualification is assessed through a set of multiple-choice
questions and an assessment of physical intervention
techniques.
You will study using a range of techniques including group work and
practical activities. We expect our students to be fully committed
to the course and attend all time-tabled lessons. The qualification
is on the Qualification Credit Framework and requires 30 guided
learning hours of study time.
Teaching/learning methods: classroom based learning, group work and
interaction, tutor training and assessment, quizzes, scenario and
role play, relevant video clips and power point presentation. We
have a mock bar for simulation training.
Assessment methods: 3 multiple choice exam papers, tutor assessment
for physical intervention.
On successfully completing this Level 2 course you will receive
a recognised industry-standard qualification in door supervision.
This gives you the opportunity to apply for an SIA licence. The
course develops your skills in:
- understanding the private security industry and the role of a
door supervisor
- knowledge of health and safety in the workplace including
awareness of emergency procedures
- understanding relevant areas of the law and other legal
issues
- how to recognise, defuse and resolve conflict situations
- using effective methods of communication
- obtaining physical intervention skills
The qualification gained is the Level 2 Level 2 Award in Door
Supervision.
You need:
to be 18 years old or above
to have good English literacy skills
home office ID requirements
2 x passport type photos
a reasonable level of fitness
To find employment in this area you also need good communication
skills, the ability to work in a team, great time keeping, self
control, and the ability to work long hours if required.
For the course, the only equipment you need is a pen and note book,
and comfortable clothes for physical intervention activities.
You can do other courses we run at the College, such as:
- Aegis-Skills Part Two Physical Intervention (Control and
Restraint). This is a higher level physical intervention course to
enhance your skills of dealing with violence and aggression in the
work place
- Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (3 days)
- Level 2 Award in CCTV (public space surveillance)
The course takes place at our Blackbird Leys campus. Training is
9am until 5pm.
NEW FOR 2014 at City of Oxford College - weekend courses in door
supervision
Our Award in Door Supervision qualification is now available as a
weekend option, which means you could fit it in outside of another
job. It can help you to find door supervisor work in retail, music
events, licensed premises and more. It's a 4-day course, is spread
over 2 consecutive weekends and takes place in Oxford. Here are the
dates for each weekend course:
• March 29/30 and April 5/6
• May 10/11 and 17/18
• June 14/15 and 21/22
• July 12/13 and 19/22
