Certificate in Swedish Massage

If you plan to pursue a career in beauty or holistic therapy or simply want to learn how to provide this popular treatment, sign up for this certificate. This programme gives you all the knowledge and skills you need to perform an effective Swedish body massage.

There are 3 units which cover:

effects, benefits anatomy and physiology
monitoring and maintaining health and safety practice in the salon
client care and communication in beauty-related industries

Approximately one third of your time here will be classroom based. Learning methods include discussion activities, lectures and workshops. Assignments and homework will also be set to gain this qualification. The remaining time will be spent within the practical working salon to practice and perform the practical application of this type of massage. There is a strong emphasis on working and learning with others and you are regularly set tasks to complete in partnership with other students. You will also need to be able to work independently and take responsibility for you own learning.

The qualification you will gain is the VTCT Diploma in Swedish Body Massage and Health & Safety. You will also develop wider skills vital for success in further study or employment including self confidence working with others taking responsibility and time management. By the end of the course you will have benefited from a valuable insight in future study or careers open to you.

This course is open to beauty therapists and motivated individuals. Ideally you will hold an anatomy and physiology qualification. Your offer is subject to a short interview.

You can progress to other therapies such as Indian head massage, pre-blended oils or a full-time beauty therapy qualification. You could seek work in a salon leisure complex or spa as this is a fully recognised qualification.

Home study - a minimum of three hours per week - is usually required to successfully complete the programme.
