If you are 19+ and want to teach English as a foreign language to adults, the CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching To Adults) gives you the training and theory you need. This internationally-recognised TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) qualification is highly regarded by employers.

The course provides initial training for people entering the profession and successful completion can lead to a first teaching post. It is also the first step (Module 1) for teachers wishing to get QTS to work in ESOL teaching in the public sector.

You learn everything you need to teach English as a foreign language:

- How to plan different types of lessons
- How to manage a classroom effectively
- How to teach grammar, vocabulary and structures
- How to teach reading, writing, listening and speaking
- How to analyse grammatical and lexical patterns
- How to teach English pronunciation

You have six hours of observed teaching practice and receive immediate feedback on your teaching. We help you to improve your teaching by demonstrating successful techniques. You learn how to plan and structure your lessons and to evaluate them after they have been taught. You also observe experienced teachers teach in class. You work in pairs or in small groups to improve your own knowledge and understanding of the English language.

You gain actual teaching practice as well as theoretical knowledge. On successful completion you are awarded a CELTA certificate. Passes are graded A, B or C.
You are assessed on your six hours teaching practice and complete four written assignments.

You need a minimum of two A-levels and a good standard of written and spoken English. You need to complete a task before coming for an interview.

You can progress to a Level 5 ESOL Diploma, the Cambridge DELTA, or seek a teaching position.

WHAT PREVIOUS STUDENTS HAVE SAID
"Doing a CELTA here has been a very positive experience. I found the course challenging and stimulating, enabling me to extend my teaching skills and regain lost confidence after a career break to have a family. The excellent tuition combined with emphasis on peer support was rewarding and I managed to gain employment straight after the course ended." Beccy Mullett, CELTA Sept-Dec 2012
