You will be working in the workplace most of the time, earning a wage and gaining practical skills and experience. You will attend college on day release, improving your theoretical knowledge and gaining additional skills and knowledge needed to be successful in your career supporting learning and teaching in schools. You will work under the close supervision of a class teacher, supervising their lessons and helping within the classroom. Depending on the teacher and the class subject, you may find yourself supervising arts and crafts activities, helping with outings, or reading to the class. On the advanced apprenticeship, you will have some responsibility, and will be helping to plan, carry out and evaluate a wide range of learning activities. You will also work alone with individuals or groups of students.Key Areas
What next
You could go on to a higher education course such as a foundation degree or Higher Level Teaching Assistant training. You could also find employment as a teaching, classroom, or learning support assistant, a behaviour support assistant or co-ordinator, a pastoral or welfare support assistant, a bilingual support assistant or a team leader.Entry requirements
