What will I Study? Students will study a range of units in the
disciplines of Psychology, Sociology, and English Literature. These
units include: Carrying out research in Psychology, Abnormal
psychology, perspectives in Psychology; An introduction to
Sociology, the Sociology of religion; appreciation of the novel
(Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks), and appreciation of a Shakespeare
play (Midsummer Night's Dream). How will I be Taught? Students will
attend college two and a half days a week and will have two
psychology and two sociology lessons each week, with one literature
lesson. There is an additional tutorial hour on the timetable each
week, where students will be booked in to see the course leader as
and when needed, though some weeks this will be mandatory for all
students. Each subject lecturer will also use some of the lesson
times for one-to-one tutorials as needed for assignment work. How
will I be Assessed? The range of assessment methods used on the
course includes essays, presentations (group and individual),
debates, other written tasks, and timed assessment. There is no end
of course exam. Most of the units will be graded on a Pass, Merit,
Distinction basis although there is no overall grade. What our
students say? "When I first got an assignment back with a good
grade on it felt like I'd won the lottery!" "This is one of the
most challenging courses to undertake but one of the most rewarding
things I have ever done." "The Access Diploma opens doors I thought
were closed before."
