Minimum Age: 18 Maximum Age: 19 Course Length: 12 months Entry Requirements:

This is a unique opportunity to gain industry experience in a highly competitive field. We are looking for committed and creative individuals. Candidates should be highly motivated, passionate and ready to work hard in a variety of tasks. The selection process will involve a workshop task and interview. Students should apply online.

Core Skills:

This course develops the skills and knowledge needed to be an effective employee in the creative arts sector. It is recommended for students who wish to work within a media production environment or students who wish to find out more about the media world before committing to an HE course. During the course learning is based around tuition and on the job practice. The course will be structured over 36 weeks based on a 35 hour working week. The course will be as close as possible to working in the real world of a production company.

Assessment:

Training and assessment will be delivered in college and on sector specific assignments with Eye TV. Assessment will be via a variety of methods including assignments, on the job learning and through project work.

Career Progression:

Career or academic progression may include work within the media production sector or progression into high education.

Full Description:

City College Norwich has created a new learning company based on the business model of an independent production company. Working with independent professionals such as Eye Film and Television the course is a foundation diploma offering a level 3/4 qualification. Mentored by industry professionals the student learning company will create a company image and market itself. It will research, pitch, budget and script ‘live’ projects which will then be scheduled, shot, edited and distributed. This end product will be created for real clients to real deadlines. This unique opportunity is available to students who have 3 A levels at grade C or above or a merit level at BTEC extended diploma. Applicants will need to apply direct to City College Norwich. A series of tasks will be set prior to the interview and students will be requested to bring a portfolio/show reel to demonstrate their skills to the interview. City College Norwich have formed partnerships with Eye Film and Television, local businesses, charities and communities to secure video commissions for the student learning company. Students will deal face to face with the client and be guided by professionals and will take on responsibility for getting the job done. Students on the course will benefit from their own dedicated production office/studio and will have the opportunity to utilize the fully equipped TV studio, photography studio, camera and editing equipment at City College Norwich. Students will be selected on their ability to use initiative, be creative and above all be committed to working as a team at a high level of intensity. The course will be structured over 36 weeks based on a 35 hour working week. The course will be as close as possible to working in the real world of a production company. The course will be made up of a mix of young people with interests in the creative arts, business, social media, the internet and film and television (in front of the camera as well as production). The main thing that they will have in common is enthusiasm and the desire to work (very) hard. On completion of the course students will gain a Foundation Diploma, a 9 unit qualification which will support progression into the industry, or onto higher education.
