Hairdressing VRQ Level 2

Summary:

This full time hairdressing course is for those who wish to take their first steps towards following a career in the hairdressing industry. There are a wide variety of jobs for fully qualified hairdressers, including salon and spa work both in the UK and abroad. Hairdressers also work in hotels, on cruise liners, in hospitals and health clubs. With further experience, they can also become salon owners or follow careers in hair design for photography and fashion, teaching and training and work for manufacturers of hairdressing products as a technical advisor.You must attend all timetabled classes. Average attendance throughout the year should be above 90%.

You must attend practical lessons correctly dressed. You must be aware that you will NOT be admitted to class if you are not in salon uniform, if your hair is not appropriately styled or if you are wearing unsuitable jewellery.

You will complete a task prior to your interview at which you will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to the course.

The enrolment procedure for this course is through a selection interview process; you should also have a minimum of three GCSEs at Grade A* - D, preferably including English, Art or a Science subject. You will also need to be motivated and enthusiastic, and have a willingness to reflect industry requirements for dress code, attitude and customer care standards.

Hairdressing NVQ Level 2.

This programme will give you good preparation for junior work in a hairdressing salon and you will gain the skills and knowledge you need to help with salon services. This includes areas such as health and safety, salon reception duties, shampooing and conditioning hair, cutting, colouring and styling hair. After completing the programme you may be able to progress onto NVQ Level 2.

There is a significant amount of written work to complete to achieve this qualification. You will be assessed via essays, reports and charts, plus some end of unit tests and a generic online multi choice test taken under exam. conditions. Your assessor will also observe your practical skills and assess what you do against the required standards. You will also be expected to maintain / improve your English and Maths skills via studying Functional Skills as this is now an integral part of the programme.

You will need to purchase a hairdressing kit (approx cost £180) and a salon tunic (approx cost £35) in order to commence your studies. A deposit will be taken during enrolment.
