The full time level 3 electrical qualification is intended for those who want to gain the knowledge and abilities that will enable them to enhance their chances of employment as an electrical improver or gain an apprenticeship and eventually become an electrician.

What it’s like working in the Electrical Installation Sector?

There are around 23,000 businesses in the industry employing around 169,000 people. As an area with a skills shortage there is an opportunity for those who wish to develop their knowledge further.

This sector will play a vital role in supporting the government’s Low Carbon and Green Agenda through the training of electricians to install and maintain solar photovoltaic systems for domestic and commercial premises to enable electricity to be generated using solar energy.

GCSE grades A* - C in English, Maths and Science, or successful completion of level one. This is due to the heavy nature of the course that involves a lot of Maths and Physics.

Assessment:

Practical skills are assessed throughout the course by internally set assignments/tasks.

Theoretical knowledge is assessed by mock internal exams in preparation for 4 on-line exams/assinments set by City& Guilds.

Each module / unit of the course has its own assignment.

On successful completion of this course you can apply for the following courses;

Full Description:

This course provides the level 3 technical and knowledge units for people seeking a career in the electrotechnical industry as an electrician.

This 34 week programme also includes practical work in our classrooms using industry standard equipment.

Successful completion of this course will give you a recognised City & Guilds qualification that can help towards obtaining an apprenticeship.

Attendance for this course is over two days.

Costs:

16-18 year old's will not have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or examination fees. However they are required to pay for other third party costs, such as books, equipment and educational trips/visits.

Students aged over 19 on the 31st August in the year in which they start their studies, on full-time courses may have to pay tuition fees unless they qualify for exemptions or funding is available, please check on apllication.

In addition they are expected to pay awarding body registration and examination fees, other third party costs, such as books, equipment and educational trips/visits and the College Administration Fee (currently £60).
