Summary:

The course develops student’s creativity through a range of media, starting with drawing and mixed media experimental work combining digital and traditional art techniques. The student will then progress through a range of project-based, practical units that cover photography, animation, games development, video and interactive media design. The innovative and responsive curriculum encourages your creativity and personal interests, giving you the skillset to progress to employment or further study at higher education level.You will be taught in our digital Mac/PC studio with access to Wacom tablets, scanners and video/audio recorders.

The qualification achieved will be equivalent to 3 A levels

Course Code: A0106 Minimum Age: 16 Maximum Age: 19 Start Date: 05/09/2011 End Date: 05/07/2013 Course Length: 2 years Entry Requirements:

Four GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English and Art, Graphics, Media or other related creative discipline. A portfolio of creative work showing your skills and interests will be required for interview.

Assessment:

Assessment will be undertaken through a variety of assessment methods including completion of assignments (course work), presentations, group critiques/discussion, and presentation of final outcomes through web, exhibition or other. You will achieve either a Pass, Merit or Distinction for each unit and the overall grade for the course will be assessed on the level of achievement in all units. If you perform exceptionally throughout the course you will be awarded a Distinction.

Academic Progression:

To further study, for example, a degree or professional qualification or to employment This is a recognised qualification to progress to HE courses in areas of the visual arts, media and multi-media.

Career Progression:

This course serves as good preparation for employment in areas such as graphic design, games design, web design, advertising, printing, publishing and digital design studies. During the course, you will work on assignments that are linked to industry.

Full Description:

Mandatory units include Visual Recording in Art and Design; Materials, Techniques and Processes in Art and Design; Ideas and Concepts in Art and Design; Communication through Art and Design; Contextual Influences in Art and Design. Additional units will cover a broad range of units which may include Computers in Art and Design; Image Manipulation; Drawing Concept Art for Computer Games; Video Editing; Single Camera Techniques; Graphic Imaging; Interactive Media Authoring and Design.
