Summary:
This programme will give you a comprehensive introduction to graphic design and a recognised qualification for HE courses in the visual arts, media and multimedia. It is also a good preparation for employment in the cultural and graphic design industries, a particular strength of the region.
Your work will be assessed in a range of ways throughout the course, including portfolio review, live brief assignments and public exhibition.

Course Code: A3485 Minimum Age: 16 Maximum Age: 18 End Date: 04/07/2014 Course Length: Two years Course Schedule: Two to Three days per week Entry Requirements:Four GCSEs at Grade C or above, preferably including Art and Design and English/ maths, or a First Diploma at merit or distinction. You’ll also need to bring a portfolio of your work to your interview. The candidate must have a passion for Graphic Design, drawing, art and design history and a love for visual communication.
Core Skills:Core units cover areas such as Drawing Development, Historical and Contextual Understanding and Ideas and Concepts. Specialist activities cover areas such as: Lens-Based Media, Mixed Media and Narrative Image Making, this links with animation and games design storyboarding. The course is different from Interactive media as there is less focus on computer based image making and more emphasis on traditional mark making.
Assessment:Assessemnt is unit based/ modular. There is no final exam but grades are taken from course work. Culminating in The Final Major Project. Year 1 is designed to develop your design skills, Year two is designed for you to put into practice learnt skills and plan for H.E. and/ or work possibilities.
Academic Progression:This is a recognised qualification to progress to HE courses in the visual arts, media and multimedia.
Learners go on to do Graphic Design, Games Design, Typography, Animation, Illustration and other visual based courses.
Career Progression:After completion, this course serves as good preparation for employment in the cultural and graphic design industries, a particular strength of the region. Where possible, links with local industry are made with visiting lecturers and possible work placements. At present we have around ten work placements set up for selected students. This is expected to expand in the future. Our current work placements include BBC Radio, Eastern Evening News, PS Digital, Castle Museum, Theatre Royal, Sea Change, The Point, Geo, Reeve and Tobar.
Costs:There are no Teaching costs, However there is a fee of £150.00 that is your materials and trips levy for the two years.
