Summary:

This challenging course is primarily designed to support students in making informed decisions in progression to Higher Education. The programme builds on students' prior learning within art and design, identifying strengths and developing skills in a wide range of art disciplines. Students will develop independent ways of working, a greater critical awareness of their own work and that of others, and develop an understanding of the career opportunities in creative industries. There will be a series of gallery visits to London and visits within Norfolk on a regular basis, plus the opportunity of a study visit to a European destination.

1 x A2 level, plus 3 GCSE grades A* - C or equivalent including English, A BTEC National Diploma in an Art & Design, Fine Art, Textiles, Graphics, Photography or other related subjectPortfolio of workApplications from mature students are welcomed. The College takes into consideration alternative qualifications and relevant work experience

Core Skills:

You will be guided through the 8 units in 3 key stages. You will develop a range of practical skills using a variety of media. These will be explored through themed projects and will include 2d, 3d and time based media. For example: painting, textiles, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture and digital art practice. You will be able to research information and develop knowledge of historical and contemporary art practice. As you progress, you will be able to develop your ideas, analytical skills and communication skills. In the third stage, you will be working through a self generated final major project, which will be exhibited in an end of the year show. The focus of your studies will be towards intended progression to higher education or working in creative industries. You will also have an opportunity to take part in the Arts Awards scheme to broaden your awareness of wider art practice.

Assessment:

The course is assessed both internally and externally. The first two stages, exploratory and pathway, will be internally assessed through visual portfolios, sketchbooks and exhibited work. The third stage, confirmatory, will be externally assessed through a final major project. This will also be through exhibition.

Academic Progression:

This course aims to support those wishing to apply for higher level art and design courses in Higher Education.

Career Progression:

This course will give you all the experience, qualifications and portfolio of work you will need to work towards your chosen progression into higher education, or employment within creative industries.
