Welsh for Primary School Staff

This course is designed to help you, as a member of staff working with young children, promote the Welsh language in the classroom environment. The course is informal, with the emphasis on speaking Welsh and developing ideas as to how to facilitate Welsh. You will have plenty of opportunities to practice the Welsh that you are learning. Topics include:

Greetings

Shapes and colours

Numbers and simple sums

Telling the time

Discussing the weather

Discussing likes, dislikes, wants and needs

Giving praise and instructions

Useful vocabulary

You will be learning Welsh mainly through practicing simple dialogues, singing songs, playing games and reading stories.

You will be asked to undertake a small amount of guided independent study, to help you revise and consolidate what you learn in the weekly lessons.

How you will gain the qualification

You will be given the opportunity to be assessed as the course progresses for a maximum of three credits at level 1 (Agored Cymru).

What qualifications you need

As this is a course designed for those who have no previous knowledge of Welsh, there are no entry requirements for this course.
