How you will gain the qualification

The Awarding Organisation is PAA/VQSET.NVQs are assessed in the workplace and the assessment is based on a carefully designed plan that looks at your day to day work and materials such as reports or projects which you produce. Some assessment is by written or oral questioning and assessor observation.

You would be visited, guided and assessed at regular intervals by your assessor, and where necessary flexible learning tools (e.g. distance learning packs) would be used to provide evidence of your underpinning knowledge. Your evidence will also be reviewed by internal and external verifiers.

What qualifications you need

Candidates must work in an education laboratory setting and have a minimum of the following:-

Five GCSEs at grade C or above, one of which must be in Science, or Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science.

Mature candidates will be considered on the basis of their experience.

Candidates can progress from NVQ Level 3 to Level 4 provided their job role allows them sufficient autonomy to manage a sufficiently complex project.

If you are unsure of the appropriate NVQ level for your experience or job role please contact the College and an introductory meeting can be arranged with an assessor.

Where to next

Many candidates progress from Level 3 to Level 4 and/or use the NVQ qualifications to progress within the laboratory sector.
