AS Level : the two units are concerned with applying ICT to solve problems and the study of the opportunities for and effects of using ICT in the world today. Candidates will have the opportunity to put into practice a wide range of software and hardware to create solutions to solve problems.

These practical skills can be developed in areas of ICT that are of interest to them. Students can also use these newly acquired skills as a springboard into other qualifications and working environments. Unit 3: The Use of ICT in the Digital World Unit 4: Practical Issues Involved in the Use of ICT in the Digital World.



How you will gain the qualification

Units 1 and 3 will be externally assessed by means of written papers under examination conditions. Unit 2 will be assessed by the centre and moderated externally by WJEC.


Candidates must produce a report based upon their practical work/investigation. Unit 4 will be assessed by the centre and moderated externally by WJEC. Candidates must produce a report based upon their practical work/investigation. There will be internal mock examinations to provide a realistic practice week.


What qualifications you need

A minimum of 6 full course GCSE’s grade C or above including


A grade C or above in one of GCSE English, GCSE English Language or Agored English Level 2.


A grade C or above in maths

With a qualification in ICT you could go on to Higher Education or work in one of the many vocational areas emerging to reflect the importance of information technology in the modern world.
