The AS course covers the topics of Leisure and Lifestyles and
the Individual in Society. In the second year, students go on to
study the topics of Environmental Issues and Social and Political
Issues. All four topics cover a wide range of contemporary issues.
Students also have the opportunity to gain an insight into the
world of German cinema, literature or they can choose to study a
region of particular personal interest. At every point, the four
skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are developed
and refined.
We provide excellent resources for our students and this really
enhances the learning experience.
We encourage our students to visit Germany and experience at first hand the German culture and way of life. For this reason, we offer travel opportunities for our students and they are also advised on opportunities for independent travel to Germany, perhaps on work experience or similar activities. We are also keen to provide every opportunity for our students to put their language skills to practical use closer to home. Small groups work every week with a foreign language assistant here at college as well as having many opportunities for discussion and conversation in their lessons.
How you will gain the qualification
There is one speaking examination in the first year of study as
well as one listening, reading and writing examination paper. There
is also one speaking examination in the second year of study with,
again, one paper testing listening, reading and writing.
Coleg Cambria uses mock exams as key practice opportunities for these.
What qualifications you need
Grade C at GCSE or above, and also 5 other GCSEs at C or above including English Language.
