General information
This course will enable you to carry out diagnostic assessments, write reports and to deliver effective teaching sessions to learners with Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia). The course is recognised by the Joint Council for Qualifications and will give you the necessary skills to apply for access arrangements and special considerations in examinations.

The course has six units to ensure that candidates become a dyslexia specialist teacher and assessor. These are:

- Unit 2: Understanding psychometric and educational assessment methods

- Unit 2: Understanding psychometric and educational assessment methods
- Unit 3: Assessing individuals for dyslexia/SpLD
- Unit 4+5 Teaching learners with dyslexia and reflective practice (candidates who already have the OCR Level 5 Diploma are exempt from this unit)
- Unit 6: Relating theoretical and methodological perspectives to practice
Teaching and assessment
This is a mixture of taught lessons and supervised practical sessions assessing dyslexic learners. Assessment is via assignments and direct observation.
Entry requirements
Entry is subject to interview.
Progression
The course will allow you to apply for the Practising Certificate and write reports for the DSA (Disabled Students Allowance).
