Description
General information
This course replaces the old NVQ2 in Children's Care, Learning & Development and is suitable for learners who have no prior child care experience and also for existing staff members who wish to achieve a formal qualification. Applicants can be in either paid or unpaid employment (minimum of nine hours per week).
The Learner will spend one day per week completing lessons and evidence on an e-portfolio as well as gaining practical experience in the workplace. In the workplace the learner is expected to work alongside experienced staff to gain skills of child care practice. Topics covered during the course include:
- Contribute to positive relationships
- Help to keep children safe
- Support children's development
- Use support to develop own practice in children's care, learning and development
- Prepare and maintain environments
- Support children's play and learning
- Food hygiene certificate
Teaching and assessment
You will complete online lessons once a week that provide you with the underpinning knowledge that will aid you in the completion of a portfolio by the end of the programme. The workshops support the skills practiced in the workplace and it is expected that the workplace mentor and college tutor, together, help you to develop as a childcare practitioner. An assessor will be assigned to you and they will come out to your place of work and assess you in practice.
Entry requirements
You must be working or volunteering in a childcare setting for a minimum of nine hours a week and complete an initial interview and assessment test to assess suitability for study at Level 2. You will need CRB clearance.
Progression
QCF Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce or Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 Diploma.
Dates and times
You will spend a minimum of five hours a week working on your e-portfolio and a minimum of nine hours a week in the workplace.
