The course is aimed at a wide range of participants from a variety of backgrounds including professional printmakers, photographers, artists, craftsmen postgraduate students, university lecturers, school teachers and those with an interest in digital craft with a fundamental aim of gaining and advancing technical understanding of the process and taking advantage of the potential to produce their own work using cutting edge facilities.
What will I study?The course will include digital file preparation using both bitmap and vector based imagery. This will involve exploring and understanding the basics of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator software. Learners would then learn how to laser cut and etch images onto paper, card, fabric, acrylic and wood before focusing on the development of a product, for example, a working clock.
The workshop approach would allow the group to work on individual tasks with technical guidance from the workshop demonstrations. Individual designs would be created via the software and then manufactured on the laser cutter. Course content includes:
WEEK 1: Introduction to the potentials of laser cutting.
Ideas, development and uses in current commercial contexts. Health
and Safety.
WEEK 2: Exploring Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Using
vectors and bitmaps. Researching and developing design ideas
WEEK 3: Developing design work into workable digital files�
WEEK 4: Sampling and material experimentation
WEEK 5: Design development/ Manufacturing design work
WEEK 6: Design development/ Manufacturing design work
WEEK 7: Design development/ Manufacturing design work
WEEK 8: Photographing and promoting work on a social media platform
How will the course be delivered?Through classroom based activities alongside a tutor and other delegates at a similar level.
Course Entry CriteriaThe college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:
- More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
- 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
- 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
- 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
- Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost
All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.
What will I get at the end of the course?You will receive a Blackburn College Certificate of Attendance upon successful completion of the training.
