What will I study?

Advanced Database requires the candidate to understand key database concepts and use a relational database application to create an advanced database structure and outputs. The candidate shall be able to:

  • Understand key concepts of database development and usage.
  • Create a relational database using advanced table creation features and complex relationships between tables.
  • Design and use queries to create a table, update, delete and append data. Refine queries using wildcards, parameters and calculations.
  • Use controls and sub forms to enhance forms and improve functionality.
  • Create report controls to perform calculations. Create sub reports and enhance report presentation.
  • Enhance productivity by working with macros and use linking and importing features to integrate data.
  • Know that different types of database models exist like: hierarchical, relational, object-oriented.
  • Know the life cycle stages of a database: logical design, database creation, data entry, data maintenance, information retrieval.
  • Recognize common business applications of databases like: dynamic website, customer relationship management systems, enterprise resource planning systems, website content management systems.
  • Know the term SQL (structured query language) and understand its main use in querying database content.
  • Create, modify, delete a lookup in a field/column.
  • Create, modify, delete an input mask in a field/column.
  • Set data entry for a field/column: required, not required.
  • Create, modify, delete a one-to-one, one-to-many relationship between tables.
  • Create, modify a many-to-many relationship using a junction table.
  • Apply referential integrity between tables.
  • Apply automatic update of related fields.
  • Apply automatic deletion of related records.
  • Apply, modify an inner join, outer join.

  • Create a simple macro like: close an object and open another object, open and maximize an object, open and minimize an object, print and close an object.
  • Assign/attach a macro to a command button, object, control.
How will the course be delivered?

The 10 week course is delivered in an evening.

Course Entry Requirements

In order to take an Advanced ECDL module you do not need to have passed ECDL Level 2, however, you do need Intermediate skills as the course builds upon the knowledge and skills gained from basic ECDL. Ideally you should also be using the software as part of your daily work. By booking onto this Advanced Access course, you are agreeing that you are proficient in the following:

Manipulating Data, Reports and Macros, Automatically Creating and Modifying Forms, Integrating Access, Manually Creating and Modifying Forms, Finding and Ordering Data, Filtering

Basic Queries and Advanced Queries.

If you are not proficient with any of the above, please contact us before booking onto the course.

The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:

  • More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
  • 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
  • 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
  • 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
  • Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost

All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.

What will I get at the end of the course?

ECDL Unit Certificate upon successful achievement following examination.

How much does it cost?

This 10 week course is priced at £275.000 per delegate (including all tuition, Registration, ECDL Test fees (First Attempt) and Certification). (Prices Subject to Change)
