Who is the course for?

The course is aimed at those who would like a more advanced understanding of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. During this course (and perhaps after completion of the ‘beginners’ course on Photoshop), learners will study a host of complex techniques associated with image manipulation and editing.

What will I study?

Students will use Lightroom as a starting point for image management. Long-term catalogue development is encouraged in order to assemble and future-proof an image archive that will allow users to access and develop their photography effectively in both current and future contexts. Lightroom allows advanced indexing of images not only via word tagging and labelling but also using face recognition and geographical tagging. In Photoshop, a look at the use of layers and layer adjustments will be implemented plus additional topics including; image blending, high dynamic range, Photoshop actions and colour profiles.

Students will learn many of the more advanced techniques associated with the use of Adobe Photoshop, but the centre point for most of the workshops is the use of layer masks and layer adjustments. The course will look at importing RAW files in through Photoshop and at the creation of High Dynamic Range imagery. Other topics include; creating actions, developing personal setting and colour settings.

Course includes: Adobe Lightroom use including tagging via multiple methods, building an archive, protecting your catalogue. Photoshop includes layers, layer masks and layer adjustments, RAW conversion, image blending and High Dynamic Range, creating actions and personal settings and colour profiles and colour settings. Accessing Photoshop from Lightroom and visa-versa.

How will the course be delivered?

Through classroom based activities alongside a tutor and other delegates at a similar level.

Course Entry Criteria

Although no prior experience is needed the course should be seen as the next natural step from the ‘Adobe Photoshop for Beginners’ course also offered at Blackburn College. No equipment is needed to study this course although access to the software would be of benefit..

The college operates a no refunds policy as detailed below. Cancellations and transfer requests are subject to the following conditions:

  • More than 4 weeks notice – no charge
  • 4 weeks notice – 30% of the cost
  • 2-3 weeks notice – 50% of the cost
  • 1-2 weeks notice – 75% of the cost
  • Less than 1 weeks notice – 100% of the cost

All cancellations must be made in writing and are subject to a £10 administration charge. The full fee’s policy is available on request.

What will I get at the end of the course?

You will receive a Blackburn College Certificate of attendance upon successful completion of the training.
