Entry Requirements
The course is aimed at individuals with significant experience outside of formal education. Entry to the course is through an interview and initial assessment to establish that students will benefit and succeed on to the course. Furthermore, students must be able to demonstrate (at interview) their commitment to the course indicating for example how they will achieve excellent attendance and punctuality (90% and above). The course is a Level 3 programme of study and students will be required to spend at least 20 hours per week of independent study time outside of the classroom environment. It is also advisable for students to undertake work experience in an education- related work environment prior to commencing study.
Delivery & Assessment methods
Students will complete a teaching placement. Assessment is by assignments for some units and some units will be by end of year examinations.
Progression
Most students progress to degrees in primary education which incorporate the subject specialism of their choice. Some students choose to undertake a subject-specific mode of study, followed by a PGCE.
