Who is this course for? This course is suitable for everyone with a keen interest in silver jewellery, whether you are a beginner or have some experience in jewellery making. What qualifications or experience do I need ? There are no formal requirements. Good eyes, a practical mind and strong hands are an advantage. What will I study ? The course programme covers basic techniques of Jewellery making and Silversmithing such as sawing, shaping of metal, annealing, softening of metal, soldering, polishing and texturing on surface. The course is student led and once we have covered the basics you will be encouraged to design your own projects. The course will be delivered through demonstrations, handouts and individual practice. How will I be assessed ? There will be continuous assessment throughout the course. What qualifications could I achieve ? College Certificate What can the course lead to ? On successful completion of this course, students can go on to study further at colleges offering relevant City & Guilds or Degree courses. Successful students can become self- employed making jewellery. How do I join the course ? Please complete an enrolment form and visit the college, alternatively, post in your application form & payment or phone the college. Will I need an interview ? NO Are there any extra costs for equipment/materials ? Extra costs include: * Metal-solder. * Saw Blades. * Emery Paper * Silver for further projects Further Information Your tutor will provide materials for the first session. After that you will need to purchase your own silver and sundries. The tutor will advise you how to do this. Please bring a pen and notebook for sketching, notes, visual research and keeping handouts. Also for health and safety reasons please bring an apron, always wear closed shoes and something to tie your hair back if necessary.
