Our HND in Fashion & Textiles has been developed to meet the needs of students wishing to study Fashion and Textile Design to undergraduate level, whilst covering the broad range of skills sought by employers. Who is this course for? Our HND in Fashion & Textiles has been developed to meet the needs of students wishing to study Fashion and Textile Design to undergraduate level, whilst covering the broad range of skills sought by employers. The emphasis is on practical and vocational work, and the content reflects the working of the fashion and textile industry. What qualifications or experience do I need ? Relevant BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma or relevant A levels equal to 120 UCAS points. Grade C or above GCSE English (or equivalent Key Skills Communications or Functional Skills English qualification at Level 2). English Language requirements for International & EU applicants Overseas students will need to demonstrate an IELTS of 6 or above. Mature Students Applications from mature students without formal qualifications with relevant professional experience are welcomed. What will I study ? This course gives you the opportunity to learn: Contemporary methods of Fashion & Textile Design, Illustration, Creative Pattern Cutting, Production Techniques, Methods of Construction, Trend prediction, Styling and technological methods of presentation. In Year 2 students choose specialist units which will form their future career path. The course culminates in a fashion or textiles collection. How will I be assessed ? Assessment is an important part of the learning and teaching process. The intention of the team is that students have a clear understanding of achievement and strategies for improving progress and performance. Assessment is formative and on-going to provide regular feedback. Grades and marks are awarded on the completion, submission and participation in specified assignments requirements. Assessment and feedback points will be indicated on assignments and your calendar. All units allow for students to achieve Distinction, Merit or Pass grades. All units are graded and an overall grade is awarded for the qualification. Progression on to Level 5 is dependent on completion of Level 4 units. What qualifications could I achieve ? BTEC HNC in Fashion & Textiles Level 4 after completion of Year 1. BTEC HND in Fashion & Textiles Level 5 after completion of Year 2. What can the course lead to ? On successful completion of this course and subject to interview, you may apply to progress onto a BA or BA(Honours) 'top up' in Fashion or Textile Design or related programme at University. Students may wish to apply for employment or consider setting up their own business. How do I join the course ? You can apply directly to the college using an application form or apply through UCAS. Students applying after the 15th August should complete and return a Barnet & Southgate College application form to Admissions at the Barnet & Southgate College Wood Street site for an interview to be arranged. Will I need an interview ? Yes. Students are required to present and demonstrate through a portfolio of work appropriate levels of skill to undertake the course. Are there any extra costs for equipment/materials ? It would be expected that you will need to purchase specialist equipment and art materials, and visit galleries and exhibitions throughout the academic year. European visits may also be scheduled into your course - your tutor will advise. Further Information UK students undertaking this course are eligible to apply for funding, for fees and maintenance through the 'Student Finance England' company.
