People who have recently benefitted from this course here at Barnet College have included: * People returning to studies after a short / long career break and who have gained level 1, * People seeking a career change; job seekers, * Self-employed and business owners wanting to familiarise themselves with computerised accounts, * Students wanting to expand their skills in this area and follow on from manual Book-keeping, * Anyone wanting to use it as part of their Continuing Professional Development. What qualifications or experience do I need ? There are no formal entry requirements but we recommend the following: Some intermediate IT & keyboard skills, familiarity with MS Windows filing system, a positive attitude towards the use of computers for learning purposes, adequate numeracy and literacy skills. What will I study ? On completion of this course and in order to pass the exam, you should be able to demonstrate competence in all of the following tasks using Sage line 50 Financial Controller: 1 Create accounts and edit details of records; i.e. add new accounts and amend details in the purchase, sales and nominal ledger. 2 Process accounting information; i.e. sales & purchase ledger (invoices, credit notes), allocate customer & supplier payments some involving discounts, process transfer between bank and cash accounts, process nominal journal entries, process a wages journal, calculate and reconcile batch totals, use several VAT rates. 3 Produce customer invoices from given data as well as customer statements. 4 Produce remittance advice for suppliers. 5 Select and print accounting reports for mangement purposes;Purchase and Sales day books summaries,Aged debtor and creditor analysis,Trial balance,supplier and customer activity,supplier and customer detail reports,nominal ledger account reports How will I be assessed ? There will be a 2 hour externally set and marked test at the end of the course which will take the form of a case study in which it is assumed the learner is working in an accounts department using a computerised accounting program. The test will be graded Pass or First Class Pass for successful candidates. What qualifications could I achieve ? A Level 2 Award in Computerised Accounts - City & Guilds qualification no.: 8989-02; * QCA accreditation number: 500/4292/0; - ** Total QCF credit value: 4 for this unit, i.e. it is recommended you spend a minimum of 40 hours of your own time to learn this unit. This Award covers learning outcomes of Level 2 & 3 NVQ in Accounting units 1,2,3,5 & 21. Please note City & Guilds awards and qualifications are recognised in many other countries. What can the course lead to ? Further accounting studies at level 3. Candidates will gain practical experience often required in job roles such as Accounts/Finance clerks, Accounting technicians, etc. How do I join the course ?
