Who is this course for? This course is designed as a pathway in Youth and Community. If you are a mature student (usually over 19) and wish to achieve the qualifications necessary to pursue a Higher Education programme leading to a career in Youth Work and Community work, then this is the perfect route for you. The course offers the underpinning knowledge to gain a level 3 qualification. What qualifications or experience do I need ? There are no formal entry requirements, but students must have relevant experience of working within the Youth and community Sector. Students must be committed and motivated to study and wish to progress on to higher education. Relevant work experience is desirable. Students progressing from a Level 2 qualification will normally require a merit profile. Applicants will need a satisfactory reference and interview. A satisfactory standard of English, equivalent to GCSE Level 2 is required. What will I study ? This course programme covers: GCSE equivalencies in English & Maths Study Skills Sociology/Social policy Youth and Community Theory and practice and Psychology How will I be assessed ? Assessment will be through: * Coursework * Final Examination (some units only) What qualifications could I achieve ? On successful completion of this course, you will achieve the nationally recognised Access to Higher Education Diploma L3 Youth and Community Work. The course is accredited by the awarding organisation OCN London region What can the course lead to ? On successful completion of this course students can progress onto Youth and Community Work related courses, or similar vocational Degrees at any university. How do I join the course ? Please complete an application form and post it or hand it in to admissions. An assessment in literacy and numeracy will be set up. After successful achievement at Level 2 an interview will then be set up. Will I need an interview ? Yes. All applicants will be interviewed and required to undertake a literacy assessment. Are there any extra costs for equipment/materials ? Extra Costs will include: * Stationery * Books Further Information Access programmes are designed especially to prepare mature students to enter higher education. They help to develop the skills and knowledge needed to successfully complete a degree course or diploma in higher education.
