Beauty Therapy (Body) NVQ Level 3

This nationally-recognised award in beauty therapy will enable you to become a fully operational therapist in a salon, without supervision. You will learn in our purpose built salon, which is fully equipped to industry standards.

This is a one year intensive course designed to help you achieve an NVQ Level 3 in Beauty Therapy.
The course comprises the following units:
- Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
- Sale skills
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities
- Swedish body massage
- Stone therapy massage
- Pre-blended oils massage
- Indian head massage
- Facials and electrical treatments

You will gain an NVQ Level 3 in Beauty Therapy together with a functional skill in ICT, maths or communications.
You will also develop wider personal development skills vital for success in further study or employment, including building self-confidence, working with others, taking responsibility, and time management. By the end of the course you will have benefited from a valuable insight in future study or careers open to you.

A good standard of education is required. A satisfactory college interview is necessary together with a supportive reference. Over the course of the year you will complete a work placement totalling 100 hours.

Career destinations include positions in health farms, health and beauty salons, leisure centres in hotels or clubs, and cruise ships.
NVQs in beauty therapy can also lead to specialist training (e.g. TV make-up, theatre work, or working for a cosmetic company) or lead to direct entry onto higher education programmes at university.

Approximately 30% of your time at college is classroom-based. Learning activities include lectures, workshops and the other 70% is in practical sessions. Much of your learning is gained through practical experience in the college salons, working with clients and on your peers where you will take on responsibilities found in the workplace.
