Introduction
Within the department all staff feel that every student is unique and ensure that they give the individual support, guidance and care necessary to provide them all with the opportunity to fulfil their potential through the many challenges open to them, both sporting and academic. Academically students have a wide range of L3 courses that meet their needs: OCR PE at AS and A2, for those wishing to follow a more vocational route we offer OCR National Certificate in Sport. For those less practically focused we offer AQA Leisure Studies at AS and A2. We also offer a wide range on enrichment activities including competitive and non-competitive sport. Introduction
Within the department all staff feel that every student is unique
and ensure that they give the individual support, guidance and care
necessary to provide them all with the opportunity to fulfil their
potential through the many challenges open to them, both sporting
and academic. Academically students have a wide range of L3 courses
that meet their needs: OCR PE at AS and A2, for those wishing to
follow a more vocational route we offer OCR National Certificate in
Sport. For those less practically focused we offer AQA Leisure
Studies at AS and A2. We also offer a wide range on enrichment
activities including competitive and non-competitive sport. All of
our sporting successes are rewarded at our Annual Sports Award
evening.
Facilities
The department boasts excellent sporting facilities: sports hall
with 4 badminton courts, floodlit 3G MUGA and
tennis/netball/basketball courts and a fitness suite. We have four
classrooms within the sportshall which all have interactive
boards. Two of these classrooms are computer
suites.
Sport Enrichment
- 2 football teams & 1 Netball team - play in the Northwest League (weekly fixtures), local and national cup competitions.
- Rugby - play weekly fixtures in a development league, local and national cup competitions.
- Training Nights - Monday after college 3.45pm to 5.00pm Football, Netball & Rugby (all welcome).
- Other competitive sports that we compete in are British Colleges north-west tournaments in; Hockey, Badminton, Tennis, Table-tennis, Trampolining, Golf, Swimming, Cross Country & Athletics.
- We also offer a number of other recreational sports; Cricket, Basketball, Softball, Multi-gym, Fusal, Lacrosse & Handball.
- We also offer students the opportunity to get involved in leadership, officiating and coaching programmes plus various volunteering opportunities.
