History (All Periods) AS/A2
The study of History involves a fascinating trip through many cultures and times and we are keen to offer you as many choices as possible. Within this wide choice, there are two compulsory elements, both government requirements: one of your units must be British History and the fourth unit has to be coursework. Naturally, classes in the topics below will only run if there are enough students signing up. Keep in mind that if you intend to study History at university, you will have a distinct advantage if you have a broad knowledge so try to avoid choosing the same topics you have covered at GCSE.

AS Unit 2
Britain 1529–47 (Henry VIII and the English Reformation)
or Mussolini’s Italy 1922–45 (rise and fall of Italian Fascism)
or Anti-Semitism, Hitler and the German People 1919–45
A2 Unit 3
Britain 1547–1603 (Edward, Mary and Elizabeth)
or Making of Modern Britain, 1951–2007
Unit 4: Coursework
A 4,000 word study using primary and secondary sources which cover
100 years, based on a topic of the student’s own choice, but must
not cover the same country or period as unit 3.
Our current topics are:
- Ancient History: Roman Britain
- Medieval: Crusading Europe
- Early Modern: The European Witch Craze, 1480–1680
Apart from unit 4 all units are examined, and the total examination time for the complete A level is 4 hours 15 minutes.
