Home students
The tuition fee for the 2013/14 academic year has been set at £8,250 (including an automatic £750 fee discount).
As a full-time UK student, you are entitled to a tuition fee loan which doesn’t have to be repaid until you start earning £21,000 per annum (if you're from England) or £15,795 (if you're from Scotland). You may also be eligible for a maintenance loan (up to £5,500) and a maintenance grant (up to £3,354). For more information about student loans and grants, visit our student finance page.
Additional fundingNational Scholarship Programme
The National Scholarship Programme is designed to support students with a household income of less than £25,000. Full-time students may be eligible for one of 110 NSP awards for full-time students worth up to £6,000.
Cumbria Bursary
The Cumbria Bursary is an annual cash award of £1,000 for up to three years of study. There are 300 Cumbria Bursaries available in 2013.
More financial supportAccess to financial support doesn’t end at registration. We have several awards and support funds available to our current students, including:

International students
The tuition fee for the 2013/14 academic year is £9,960.
Fees are billed annually and may be paid by the student or a sponsor. 75 percent of the annual tuition fees must be paid before or at registration. For students requiring a Tier 4 Student Visa, a deposit of £3,500 is expected as a minimum before a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) will be issued. Early payment discount
If you are paying your own fees, you may be eligible for an early payment discount of £1,000. This discount is awarded to students who pay in full before registration.
Additional financial supportOur money doctors will be on hand throughout the year to help you manage your money while you’re in the UK. However, if you do happen to run into financial difficulty during your time here, you may be able to access a small emergency support fund.

Modules Year 1- UCBS4002 - An Introduction to Marketing in the 21st Century
The aim of the module is to introduce you to the theories and concepts of marketing and consider the impact, ethics and sustainability agendas to which it contributes in the 21st Century, particularly in regard to 'technology revolution'.
- UCBS4003 - Business Research and Practice
This module aims to introduce management research related to a variety of business contexts and using different approaches. This will include the identification and understanding of how information and knowledge are generated and applied, the preparation and planning of research, data collection from a wide range of sources of data, data analysis and dissemination of results.
- UCBS4004 - Essentials of Human Resources
This module introduces you to the human resource function and enables an understanding of its importance within organisational contexts. You will learn how to compile a systematic recruitment and selection process. The module also considers the human resource function in terms of management and leadership.
- UCBS4005 - Principles of Business Finance and Economics
The module aims to introduce you to fundamental economic theories and the role of individual businesses to economic success.
- UCBS4007 - Systems Analysis and Design
This module explores the nature of systems and the concept of the systems design process. It aims to develop investigative and analytical skills in systems design which students will illustrate through the completion of a portfolio.
- UCBS4008 - Computers and Networking
This module enables you to develop an understanding of how computer hardware and an operating system provide a platform on which business software applications run. It also introduces basic networking principles.
Year 2- UCBS5001 - Applied Research and Analysis
The aim of this module is to enable you to successfully develop research proposals and undertake research projects. The module will provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate an evaluative ability to be creative and innovative in operational decision making using a range of data.
This module will enable you to act with confidence and competence in respect to the production of a major piece of work as well as develop your work based skills in an academic environment
- UCBS5003 - Management Accounting and Decision Making
The aim of this module is to give you the knowledge and evaluative ability to be creative and innovative in your operational decision making using a range of decision making models, processes and opportunities. In addition you will learn how knowledge and application of financial data is used to assist the decision making process and reflect on adaptations of this knowledge to the world of work.
- UCBS5005 - Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development
(Optional module)
The purpose of this module is to provide you with an understanding of the nature and importance of small businesses within different sectors and to analyse the entrepreneurial nature of successful small business development. The module will enable you to evaluate your own interest and capability for small business development and to develop effective business plans for new business ideas.
- UCBS5006 - Business in the Cloud
(Optional module)
This module enables you to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the "cloud" concept as applied in a range of business settings; it focuses on cloud computing metaphors and how these can be utilised in entrepreneurial development.
- UCBS5007 - Web Development
(Optional module)
The module will develop your skills in the designing and building of websites both from first principles and also through the use of web development tools such as WYSIWYG site builders and content management systems. The principle objective of the module is for you to develop a solid understanding of the underlying principles of web development and the implications of standards and multi-platform accessibility issues of web pages.
- UCBS5008 - Data Management
(Optional module)
The aim of this module is that you are able to evaluate and analyse the range of activities and techniques involved in developing, implementing and supporting 'Relational Database Management Systems' (RDBMS)
Course summaryYou will critically evaluate the relationships between business strategy and operational needs providing creative and innovative solutions using computer systems, designs, networks, and programming for public, private and third stream organisations of differing sizes and complexities.
Hardware and software outcomes are created and critically evaluated in association with work based projects which consider legal, ethical and sustainable professional practice across a range of local, regional, national, international and global geographies.
