Our aim is to provide those concerned with or working with children in a Church or Sunday School context, with an opportunity for enhancing subject knowledge and expertise and for developing skills in critical reflection in order to gain new insights which they will be able to apply to their work or Church context. In some modules the main object is to enhance subject knowledge and skills; in other modules the object is to develop the ability to reflect critically on experience and to develop practice and skills in the light of reflection.

Resources and facilities An initial induction workshop provides students with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with their learning environment. This support session provides students with the opportunity to learn about the University’s Virtual Learning Environment, Blackboard. Through using Blackboard, tutors communicate course information, provide access to course documents, announcements, tasks, e-mails, messages, and facilitate discussion. Student work A range of assessment methods have been designed to enable students to demonstrate that they have met the learning outcomes of each module. Informal assessment will be carried out through activities such as question and answer, class discussion, feedback from group work. Credit and UCAS requirements Credit: 60 credits Selection criteriaAlthough there are no prior qualifications/requirements for these modules at level 4, recent experience in working with children in the context of Church or Ministry will be expected.
Any student engaged in working with vulnerable adults or children is required to have enhanced CRB clearance. While these modules do not require such a work placement, some students may opt for an assignment that does draw on such work and then enhanced CRB clearance will be required.
There are no work placements, however students may be required to reflect on their own experience in working with Children in the Church context in the course of their studies.

Modules This programme is worth sixty credits at Level 4. It is made up of three modules of twenty credits; usually the modules can be taken in any order. Students can take any single module as a stand-alone module leading to a Certificate of Achievement of 20 credits at Level 4.REDS4204 Children’s Ministry: Understanding Children

Students successfully completing the University Certificate in Children's Ministry should be able to:
a) demonstrate a systematic approach to the development of their knowledge and understanding of the theory and principles underpinning the churches’ work with children and demonstrate a range of subject specific skills in showing how they might apply this knowledge;
b) evaluate the different strategies and approaches that have developed in the churches to meet the challenge of serving the needs of children in the worshipping community and communicate their findings in a structured and clear manner;
c) identify and discuss the relationship between their experience in working with children in the context of Church and Ministry with their reading of scripture, their understanding of theology and their findings from books/journals and other data from the field of study.There are no frequently asked questions yet.
