The module aims to provide a sound grounding in the design of
complete electronic systems using a Field Programmable Gate Array
(FPGA) to realise the main elements of hardware and software. It is
intended for electronics designers who may be required to design
the electronics for a new product or to update and replace the
electronics of an existing product. Practical design exercises
involve the use of an FPGA development kit which is issued on loan
for the duration of the course.
The module is appropriate for a wide spectrum of engineers
including software and hardware designers and engineers who are
about to embark on an FPGA design or want to be prepared for one.
Engineers who have been involved with an FPGA project in the past
will find this a useful refresher.
It can be studied on its own or as part of a programme leading to a
formal qualification.
