Throughout the course, you will develop management and organisation skills alongside your subject-specific knowledge and understanding. Your studies will focus on particular areas of engineering such as mechanical design, systems engineering, analysis of materials and structures, and the theory and application of composite materials. You will study the theory and practice of mechanical engineering, and carry out case studies, practical and laboratory work and problem-solving projects. You will also develop the presentation and managerial skills that you will use to manage engineering projects and support your future career development in the industry.
As a student on the MEng degree you will also have the opportunity to develop your foreign language skills; you will study extra modules at levels 1, 2 and 3 and a dedicated module in the final level. You will also undertake an industrial placement between levels 3 and 4 of the programme (unless you are already employed in the industry).
The MEng Mechanical Engineering is one of a series of programmes offered by the University of Bolton that runs within an integrated MEng/BEng format. These courses share modules at levels 1 and 2 and the routes diverge at levels 3 and 4 where this course offers dedicated MEng modules. It is therefore possible to transfer at the end of level 1 to our MEng Mechanical Engineering if you so wish.
This course has recently been reviewed and reconfigured by the University with a view to gaining accreditation from the Institution of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE). The course has been designed to meet the academic requirements leading to Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. Please see the Engineering Council UK website for further details.
