This course is aimed at all educationalists with an interest in gaining an up-to-date overview of issues in adult literacy. The module focuses on the key theoretical issues that impact on adult literacy provision.The syllabus covers the following areas of content: models of literacy; discourse analysis; political issues in curriculum design; literacy practices; history of adult literacy provision; literacy in developing countries; examination of current issues such as work-based training, employability training, family literacy, prison education, and under-represented groups within the post-compulsory sector.
