The Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) credential proves that you have the skills to successfully support end-users and to successfully troubleshoot desktop environments that are running the Microsoft Windows operating system. This distance learning course is ideal for anyone who wants to be able to choose the pace of their study themselves.

At UK Open Learning we pride ourselves on our friendly and supportive tutors. Your tutor support will start as soon as you receive your course and will be valid for 12 months. All our tutors are highly qualified with extensive experience in supporting distance learning students. You contact your tutor via email and they are responsible for answering your questions and guiding you through the course to ensure you are ready for your examinations.

No prior knowledge is necessary to study this course although it is recommended you have a good computer knowledge.

We recommended you spend approximately 110 hours of your time studying for the Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) Course. The pace of study is completely up to you. To give an example, if you dedicate 2 hours a week to the course it would take you a year to complete but if you could spare 4 hours a week you could complete it in six months.

The course is divided into two main sections: Section 1: Supporting Users and Troubleshooting a Microsoft Windows XP Operating System. Section 2: Supporting Users and Troubleshooting Desktop Applications on a Microsoft Windows XP Operating System.

Exam fees are not included and are payable directly to the test centre. Exams are taken at your local Prometrics Testing Centre. To find the location of your nearest centre please visit www.prometric.com

Assessment for this award is carried out by two exams at a local approved test centre. Candidates will gain experience through hands-on lab exercises that allow you to practice what you learn in a fully functional, simulated environment, as well as access to practice tests and exam simulators. In addition, students will have the full support of an expert tutor to guide you every step of the way.
