What you will learn

Our environmental management postgraduate programme was established to meet the challenges of environmental decision making. Everyday concerns of environmental protection, natural resource management and rapidly changing environmental legislation and policy are considered in global and local contexts. The modules teach the skills you need to unpack the issues and participate creatively in the process of improving environmental performance in all sectors of society.

This MSc offers you the choice of a research route or a professional route to this course.
If you need a more professionally-oriented course, you can take the 30-credit module MSc professional project (T847). If you prefer a more research-oriented MSc, you can take the 60-credit MSc research project (T802). Both routes offer a rigorous approach to solving complex real world problems and offer essential skills for successfully addressing environmental issues.

Time required and cost

To achieve the MSc Environmental Management you must successfully gain 180 credits. The course typically takes three years to complete based on 12-16 hours of study each week. We recommend that you study no more than 60 credits a year. There is no time limit for completing the courses in the environmental management programme, but we cannot guarantee that the same selection of modules will continue to be available.

For details on module costs please see the tables at the bottom of this page. The total cost of the course depends on the modules studied. As a guide the total fee for 2012/13 academic year was from £9,830 to £11,550.

Career impact

The professional route, where you take the MSc professional project as your final module, is suitable if you want to develop your career in industry, commerce, the public sector or the third sector. The research route is more applicable if you intend to develop a career in research or go on to undertake study leading to a PhD or other research degree.

Our environmental management programme is for all students interested in designing, managing and participating in more effective environmental decision-making processes.

Entry requirements

To study for this masters degree course you must hold a bachelors degree from a UK university or other recognised degree-awarding body, or a course at equivalent level. If you do not have a degree you need to be adequately prepared for postgraduate study. For advice please call us on the number shown at the top of the page, or click the call back button.

You will also need to be proficient in English, to an IELTS standard of 6.0. If you are unsure you will be able to take a free English test as part of the registration process.

Classification of course

On successful completion of the required modules you can be awarded an MSc in Environmental Management entitling you to use the letters MSc Env Mgmt (Open) after your name.
